Overview

The Tairāwhiti Emergency Management Office (TEMO) leads the coordination for emergency responses when activated. The region has a number of hazards that includes earthquakes, tsunami, severe weather, pandemics to name a few.

TEMO workstreams cover the four 'R's' of emergency management – Reduction, Readiness, Response and Recovery. As part of the Tairawhiti Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group, TEMO leads the coordination of emergency response when activated. This involves a number of stakeholders and agencies in the region and also connects into the national emergency management system. That includes Central Government, local iwi, the Police, FENZ and many others.

In ‘peacetime’ TEMO delivers training and engagement as part of the readiness 'R', to ensure the region and the many communities can respond to emergency events.
